The flood mitigation project for West Street in Tallow will take approximately two years.

That is according to Director for Roads at Waterford City and County Council at the July sitting of Dungarvan-Lismore District Council.

In June, the OPW announced it had improved €90,000 in additional funding for flood mitigation works in Tallow.

Mr Hynes said they were appointing a consultant to do a pilot study of the Tallow catchment.

“What we are looking at is survey to see if it is appropriate to flood land upstream, introduce a hydro break.

“So that is not immediate. It is probably a two-year project to see if we can reduce the hydraulic flow that is coming down onto West Street.

“But we are in the process of appointing a consultant,” said Mr Hynes.

Mr Hynes was responding to a query from Cllr John Pratt who asked for an update.

He said he was concerned about works being paused for the winter.

“Is there any update on the study regarding West Street in Tallow and I’m conscious we are coming close.

"And I know we have a few months to go before we are back in to the winter months again,” said Cllr Pratt.
