It was a historic victory for Sinn Féin in the Waterford election as the party won their first ever seat in the Lismore LEA, with Donnchadh Mulcahy overcoming Independent candidate Brian Buckley by 39 votes.
All three seats have now been filled in Lismore, the first LEA in the county to do so.
The make-up of the new area council is Cllr John Pratt (Labour), Niamh O’Donovan (Fine Gael) and Donnchadh Mulcahy (Sinn Fein).
Donnchadh Mulcahy spoke to Waterford News & Star immediately after being elected. (
