Bookies have their say on Waterford Constituency...

Versus Bet have given their predictions for the Déise candidates in this year's General Election.

What’s the odds of that happening? Bookies have their say… Only two days out from the general election and Waterford people are preparing to cast their ballot. While it is impossible to predict the outcome with absolute certainty, bookmakers are making their own calculations over who will be taking a seat in the Dáil.

If I were a betting man, I would keep a close eye on candidates Shanahan, Roche and O’Neill as possible dark horses.

Seeing as I am neither a man nor a better, I’ve instead taken a look at the bookies…

Boyle Sports

At Boyles Sports, they have named sitting TD David Cullinane as a dead cert at odds of 1/200.

Fellow Sinn Féin candidate Cllr Conor McGuinness follows right behind at odds of 1/5.

Minister for the State Mary Butler looks set to hold her seat at odds of 1/5. Fine Gael Senator John Cummins is calculated at 1/3 odds.

Sitting TD Matt Shanahan faces odds of 2/5, while Green Party TD Marc Ó Cathasaigh is at 6/1.

Cllr Mary Roche is marked at having 14/1 odds of becoming the first Social Democrat TD in Waterford.

Labour’s Sadhbh O’Neill is at 20/1, Patrick Curtin of People Before Profit is at 66/1, and Aontú’s Ronan Cleary faces odds of 100/1.

Paddy Power

Over at Paddy Power’s the predictions point in a similar direction with Cullinane at 50/1, McGuinness and Butler at 1/7, and Cummins 3/10. Shanahan faces odds of 4/11, while Ó Cathasaigh is tipped at 6/1.

Versus

At Munster-based bookmakers Versus, the odds similarly put the electoral race as between the five candidates Cullinane (1/50), McGuinness (1/7), Butler (17), Cummins (3/10) and Shanahan (4/11). Ó Cathasaigh is tipped at 6/1, Roche at 14/1 and O’Neill at 18/1. Similarly to Boyle Sports, Curtin is running at 66/1 and Ronan Cleary is at 100/1.
