Local Link Waterford pay tribute board member on his passing

Local Link has paid tribute to a “valued friend, colleague and board member,” Ned Ryan, on his passing.
Mr Ryan from Vicarstown Modeligo passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2026.
Chairperson of Local Link Waterford councillor John Pratt said he will be greatly missed.
“For 15 years, Ned gave unwavering commitment to Local Link and to the communities we serve.
“His wisdom, integrity, and genuine care for people shaped our Board and strengthened Local Link Waterford immeasurably.
“He was a trusted colleague and a true friend, and will be greatly missed by us all,” said Cllr Pratt.
The board, management, staff, extended their deepest sympathies to Ned's wife, Mary and their family, friends and loved ones.
They said he was a “strong advocate for community transport and rural connectivity” and “ his insight, integrity, and commitment were evident in all he did”.
Local Link General Manager James O'Donoghue said Mr Ryan
“Ned was always deeply supportive of our staff and management and always generous with his time and encouragement.
"His calm presence throughout his time with us made for a lasting impression on our organisation and the services we provide.
"We will ensure that his legacy will continue in the work we do every day,” said Mr O'Donoghue
Mr Ryan's funeral mass will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Modeligo.
Burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
Lying in repose at his home, Vicarstown, Modeligo, on Thursday, January 8, from 2pm until 7pm.
A shuttle bus service will operate from the Modeligo Community Centre from 2pm.
Mr Ryan is pre-deceased by his parents Maggie and Ned Ryan.
He is missed by his wife Mary (Nee Harrington), sons Declan and J.P., daughters Marguerite, Rosanne and Colette, daughters-in-law Geraldine and Niamh, sons-in-law Michael Walsh, Gerred Barrowclough and Bob Manahan.
He is also missed by his grandchildren Muireann, James, Mikey and Bébhinn Walsh, Annie and Eamonn Ryan, Brónagh, Céire, Dearbhla and Paddy Ryan, Eoghan, Tadhg and Liam Barrowclough, Caitlin and Riain Manahan, James’ fiancée Shauna and Muireann’s partner Eoin, great-grandson Vincent, sister Nellie Power, nieces Anna, Aileen, Lucy and Aoife, brother-in-law Tony Harrington, sisters-in-law Brigid Murphy, Phil Hutchings and their families, relatives, many neighbours and friends.
