The season of extreme weather has officially begun, at least that was the impression given at the December sitting of Dungarvan-Lismore District Council.

Caothairleach Niamh O’Donovan said: “(There was) a recent landslide between Cappoquin and Lismore. This is not the first time the earth has run off onto that road, the N72.

“The road is brilliant but that risk, there’s going to be a loss of life there if we don’t look at retaining walls there."

She noted that it is especially dangerous when the ground is “at saturation point”.

Cllr O’Donovan told the council that the ground is more likely to reach this point during the winter.
