A lack of school bus seats is causing chaos in West Waterford.

That is according to Councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy, who said parents have been trying to contact Bus Éireann but are having difficulty getting answers.

“I’m inundated with phone calls from distressed parents, and I’m doing my very best to try and get answers for them. The lack of communication from Bus Éireann is deeply frustrating, and families deserve far better,” said Cllr Mulcahy.

Cllr Mulcahy said many families have had to make other arrangements for getting their children to school.

But many families in rural communities already have limited options.

This has left families and children frustrated, anxious, and in many cases without the certainty of a seat.

Cllr Mulcahy is calling on the Government to intervene.

"The broader issue points to a deeper failure in how State agencies like Bus Éireann are run and held accountable.

"A school bus service is not a luxury; it is a necessity for children and families across rural Ireland. When the system breaks down and when those in charge fail to respond, the consequences ripple through communities.

"It is clear that the Government must take a closer look at the management and accountability of Bus Éireann.

"Families in West Waterford, and right across the country, deserve a school transport system that is fair, reliable, and transparent. Anything less is unacceptable," said Cllr Mulcahy.
