Kilure Bridge Nursing Home

A nursing home in Waterford received a glowing report from Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA). Killure Bridge Nursing Home was deemed ‘fully compliant’ in each report category.

The premises was subject to an inspection in June 2024, and the report was published this month.

The report stated that the residents felt safe and content at the home and warm relations with the staff. It read: "Residents looked well cared for and had their hair and clothing done in accordance to their own preferences. Residents’ stated that the staff were kind and caring."

At the time of the inspection, there were 79 residents living in the home. The home has 61 single bedrooms with en-suite toilet, shower and wash-hand-basin facilities. There were six single bedrooms and six twin bedrooms with wash-hand-basin facilities.

The onsite food and dietary options were praised: "Residents were very complimentary of the home cooked food and the dining experience in the centre. Residents’ enjoyed homemade meals and stated that there was always a choice of meals, and the quality of food was excellent."

High Standard

The cleanliness of the centre was also highlighted: “The centre was cleaned to a high standard, with good routines and schedules for cleaning and decontamination. Alcohol hand gel was available in all communal rooms and corridors. PPE stations were available on all corridors to store PPE.”

The centre's record keeping and procedural practices received positive notice: “The centre had arrangements in place to protect residents from abuse. There was a centre-specific policy on the protection of the resident from abuse. Safeguarding training had been provided to all staff in the centre and staff were familiar with the types and signs of abuse and with the procedures for reporting concerns.”

People visiting their loved ones also spoke highly of the home. According to the report: "There was no booking system for visits and the residents who spoke to the inspector confirmed that their relatives and friends could visit anytime.
