John Brennan, former Vice-Principal of the Presentation school in Waterford is laid to rest

John Brennan spent many years as vice-principal of the Presentation Convent Secondary School in Waterford.
The funeral mass of John Brennan took place on Thursday morning, December 5, at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Barronstrand Street, Waterford, followed by burial in his beloved Mooncoin.
Mr Brennan of Daisy Terrace, Waterford, and late of Main Street, Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny, spent many years as Vice-Principal of the Presentation Convent Secondary School, in Waterford City.
He had a strong faith and when in good health would attend mass daily. He also enjoyed watching mass from churches throughout the world online. Prayer was an important aspect of each day for him.
"He showed an unwavering gentleness, kindness, understanding and compassion," said Fr John Harris during the funeral, adding that he treated all people with “dignity and respect”.
"He will be remembered as a good, loyal and loving husband, who worked hard to ensure his family were taken care of. He took profound pride and joy in his children and his grandchildren," said Fr Harris.
Fr Harris said it was his humanity, for which Mr Brennan is best remembered, particularly in his role as a teacher. He had a strong relationship with the sisters at the Presentation and had a strong love for the convent.
During her eulogy, Mr Brennan's daughter Bernadette described her father as a man whose faith formed the cornerstone of everything he did throughout his life.
He was devoted to his teaching at the Presentation, and had the upmost respect for the nuns, the students and the convent itself.
“The respect he gave and received was something special. He loved his job and he went in with such energy every day," said Bernadette.
Mr Brennan spent 50 years married to his loving wife Eileen.
“They were an extension of each other," said Bernadette.
During his life, he lived on both sides of the river Suir, however he held most closely to his heart Mooncoin, where he was born.
Lyrics from his favourite song, 'The Rose of Mooncoin' were read by Bernadette, closing out the mass and a life well lived.
