'It's disgraceful' - old Tramore hotel lies idle

The former Tramore Hotel has been vacant for over two decades. Picture taken August 2022.

The standard of facilities in Tramore was highlighted at a recent meeting of Waterford's Metropolitan Council.

Councillor Lola O'Sullivan (Fine Gael) asked for an update on the maintenance of several sites in the area.

She said: "From the environment point of view, I know the toilets at the amusement arcade were tidied up and the Ladies' Slip. I just want to know when will they be complete?"

Cllr O'Sullivan continued: "In relation to planning, the old Tramore Hotel is falling down. It's had three planning applications for planning on it, it's disgraceful at the moment.

"Whoever owns it at this stage needs to be encouraged to tidy it up, even a little up."

Senior Executive Dawn Wallace said: "The strand (toilets) were finished last week and were opened for the weekend and the Ladies' Slip will probably be finished this week but we don't open them until bathing season anyway. But they will be finished by then."

On the hotel issue, Senior Executive Planner Hazel O'Shea stated: "It is on our radar. The management team are dealing with it and actively trying to bring it to a resolution. That's as much as we can say at this point."

The former Tramore Hotel site, on the Strand Road, was accepted for planning permission in 2019.
