Indian festival ‘Durga Pooja’ celebrated with devotion and community spirit in Waterford
The festival has grown from a small family prayer service into a much-loved community gathering.
Durga Pooja, a Hindu festival celebrated primarily in Eastern India, was recently celebrated "with great devotion and joy" for the fifth time in Waterford.
The festival, held in Treacy's Hotel, was an opportunity for people of all faiths to come together in celebration, through music, dance, and prayer.
Organised by Vartika and Amit Srivastava and their family, with the support of their local Indian community in Waterford, the festival has grown from a small family prayer service into a much-loved community gathering.

More than 250 devotees from across Waterford city, Tramore, and surrounding areas came together with family and friends as part of this year's celebrations.
The free, all-welcome event featured a full day of devotional programmes, including Devi Sthapna, soulful Bhajan Kirtan by Dhun Ireland, Aarti and Pushpanjali, followed by Mahaprasad (dinner) and a vibrant evening of Garba and Dance.

Speaking on the occasion, the organisers told the Waterford News & Star, "We are humbled and overwhelmed by the love and support of the community. In a foreign land, you all have become our family.
“This festival is not just ours; it belongs to the entire community. We thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for making it a grand success."
The festival’s organisers extended heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, friends and families whose support made the event possible.
