Inaugural 'Row for Solas' event raises over €57,000 for cancer support centre
The inaugural 'Row for Solas' fundraising event held last Saturday was an outstanding success, with over 200 participants raising €57,050 for the Solas Cancer Support Centre.
The event brought together participants, local businesses, supporters, volunteers, and community members for a day of endurance, solidarity, and fundraising, all in support of the vital services provided by the centre.
Jointly organised by Eamon Cullen of Waypoint Training and Harry Power of Waterford Recovery Services, the event exceeded all expectations, creating a phenomenal atmosphere throughout the day as teams and individuals rowed together to support those affected by cancer across the South East.
The day also featured a number of moving speeches, including an address from David Brennan, who spoke passionately about the legacy of the Vicky Phelan campaign and the importance of community support for those facing cancer.
The event was officially launched by actress Eilish O'Carroll, best known for her role in Mrs. Brown's Boys.
Organisers extended sincere thanks to all participants, sponsors, volunteers, supporters, and members of the public who contributed to making the event such a memorable occasion.
"With €57,050 raised and overwhelming community support demonstrated, Row for Solas has established itself as a powerful new fundraising event for the region and a fitting tribute to the spirit of solidarity that exists across Waterford and the South East" a spokesperson said.
