Winner of Waterford Poetry Prize announced

Abhainn Connolly, winner of the Waterford Poetry Prize 2024 for their work 'The Transgender Mirror'.
The winning poem of the Waterford Poetry Prize 2024 has been officially announced.
The winning poem, 'The Transgender Mirror', was written by Abhainn Connolly, who is an American writer living in Dublin.
Their poetry can be found in Oxford Poetry, Poetry Ireland Review, Lucky Jefferson, and HAD, and their debut poetry collection DEADNAME was released in 2023 by Write Bloody UK.
Recently, they were longlisted for the 2024 Edinburgh Short Story award, were the recipient of a 2024 Emerging Artist bursary from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and won a 2024 Agility Award from the Arts Council of Ireland for their fiction and creative non-fiction.
Abhainn also received an MA in Creative Writing at UCD, Dublin.
The Waterford Poetry Prize was open to all writers currently living on the island of Ireland. The prize has emerged from the influence of the late Waterford writer Seán Dunne whose poetry continues to inspire.
The winners of the Waterford Poetry Prize 2024 were announced at the closing event of the Waterford Writers Weekend on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
The winners were selected by award-winning Dublin-based writer and poet Colm Keegan.
