Waterford secondary school friends release new song on Valentine's Day

On Valentine’s Day a group of local friends in Waterford released their latest single, described as a ‘groovy uplifting tune about eternal love.’ 

Local artist De Búrca and band ‘The Sprokets’, recorded the song, ‘Love & Repeat’ during their leaving certificate year in 2024.

Singer-songwriter Leanna de Búrca first began crafting the song at Music Generation Ireland’s songwriting camp in 2023.

The contributions from secondary school friends bring an added layer of empowerment to the song, reinforcing its message of friendship and embracing a positive outlook on life.

Leanna de Búrca, the dynamic frontwoman aged 19, hails from Tramore, Co Waterford.

Since the age of 16, Leanna has been a prominent figure in the Waterford music scene, and now studies at BIMM Dublin, where she continues to make waves across the capital. The Sprokets on other hand draw inspiration from a range of artists including Sinéad O’Connor, Thin Lizzy, Toucan, CMAT, and Jamiroquai. The band have put music on hold for now as they head off to college, with some moving across the country and even abroad.

Despite this, De Búrca continues performing with fellow BIMM students. 

Known for their electrifying performances, De Búrca can be seen emerging in some of Dublin's top venues. Her band's live sets are a must-see, blending a mix of infectious singles with 'funkified' pop and rock beats, that are sure to get any crowd on their feet.

This single ‘Love & Repeat’ is a tribute to Waterford and its can-do attitude and welcoming atmosphere, that started De Búrca on their musical journey and it was only fitting that the uplifting track was released on February 14, Valentine’s Day. Leanna said: “I love the craft of it all, getting a concept together, booking gigs and making merch and stickers with my mates.”
