Waterford musician, Derek Flynn, to put spotlight on Bob Dylan in upcoming gig

Dylan-mania has swept the country with the release of the new biopic, 'A Complete Unknown', with Timothee Chalamet starring as the iconic singer songwriter.

In the midst of this newfound appreciation for the iconic artist, Waterford’s own Derek Flynn has organised a night of music not to be missed, as he gets 2025 underway with a very special 'Life & Songs' show: The Life & Songs of Bob Dylan.

Musician and writer, Derek started performing the Life & Songs shows in 2023 with a Leonard Cohen tribute.

Since then, with the help of various performers including Lauren Cardiff, Paula Weldon, and Dean Flynn, he has paid tribute to a number of iconic musicians and groups including Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Simon and Garfunkel, and Abba.

During that time, he’s been often asked when he would get around to tackling one of the most legendary singer-songwriters of all time - Bob Dylan.

Dylan has had an extraordinary career, starting in Greenwich Village in the early 1960s when he was only 19, and continuing to this day with the current Never-ending Tour.

In that time, he has written songs that have been hailed as anthems of their generation and has won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

There has been a resurgence of interest in Dylan recently with the release of the new biopic.

'A Complete Unknown', was released to rave reviews from critics and audiences.

In the Coastguard Cultural Centre on Saturday, January 25, Derek will perform a selection of classic songs from Dylan’s back pages, as well as talking about some of the key events from his extraordinary life.
