Lir String Quartet will be performing for Waterford Music

Waterford Music is teaming up with the National String Quartet Foundation (NSQF) to bring The Lir String Quartet to the Déise city this month.

The Quartet will perform on Thursday, October 24, in the Dr Mary Strangman Large Room of City Hall with the concert scheduled to get under way at 7.30pm.

The concert is part of a four-date tout organised by the NSQF, an organisation that arranges concert tours for acclaimed string quartets.

The Lir Quartet will perform their concert as part of a four-date Irish tour, which includes Westmeath, Kilkenny and the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The quartet consists of four musicians who are all accomplished in their own right: Siobhán Doyle and Kirsty Main (violins), Ed Creedon (viola) and Killian White (cello).

The four musicians will play classic pieces by Brahms and Bach, celebrate women composers with a piece by Fanny Mendelssohn and perform a new piece by Irish composer Harry O’Connor.

The Lir Quartet members have quickly established their name as one of Ireland's foremost contemporary chamber music ensembles. The origins of the group go back to the Clandeboye Festival in 2017, and in the interim the quartet has built up a busy ongoing schedule while at the same time exploring an ever-expanding repertoire.

The NSQF has been instrumental in supporting the group since its inception providing funding for numerous performances each year.

To book this concert, visit waterford-music.org or book at the door on the night. Tickets €20, with €15 concession tickets for seniors/unwaged and student tickets for €5.
