Graffiti in Waterford by "ignorant, uneducated racists" is condemned

Incidents of graffiti in which racist slogans and slurs were sprayed onto walls in a number of areas of Waterford City have been condemned.
The incidents occurred in the Kilcohan, John's Park and Birchwood areas of the city.
Some of the slogans displayed support for the IRA while other slogans bore words like 'get them out' and in one instance there was even a Nazi swastika sprayed beside and the letters IRA.
Sinn Féin Councillor, John Hearne, condemned the vandalism and in an online post wrote: "It's sad to see ignorant uneducated racists displaying their ignorance on the walls around Kilcohan and John's Park and Birchwood areas."
Cllr Hearne, who worked abroad in the past, highlighted the fact the graffiti was offensive on a number of fronts.
"Not only does it offend people, it's also offensive spreading hate and it is disgusting to paint swastikas and calling on people to be put out of their homes," he said.
"It is criminal damage and I'll be reporting it to the Garda and to the Council to clear it up," he added.
"People are good," he said.
"An African surgeon operated me an Australia, gave me a job in Australia and it bought me my house." he added.
Cllr Hearne also noted that in England he was looked after by "very decent English employers".
"It's a good world with good people don't let the filth poison our children's minds," he said.
"We all saw their hate brought us in the Troubles in the North," he added.
"Hate has no future."
