Good news for Waterford's iconic sand dunes

There was positive news for the Bonmahon Dunes at the September sitting of Comeragh District Council.
Cllr Catherine Burke told the council that the project to preserve the dunes was going well and they were already seeing progress.
“We put chestnut fencing on the dunes; the marram grass is looking really good. You can see it coming back. It’s amazing how quickly it grew back.
“To be fair to the environment section, this is a really good investment of money, but it does need to be maintained and to be observed by people who know what they are doing,” said Cllr Burke.
She asked what the plan of maintenance for the Bonmahon dunes was and if they still intended to plant more marram grass in October.
Senior Executive in the environment section Dawn Wallace said that the contracts for a maintenance plan were due to be signed and a meeting scheduled with the ecologist.
