Gardaí seize two "seriously illegal" e-scooters in Waterford city

Two of Kilkenny's Garda Road Policing Unit members were dropping court material to Waterford Garda Station on Monday evening.

As they approached Rice Bridge, they spotted two males on “seriously illegal” e-scooters.

A quick chat and inspection revealed the machines to be 2,000-watt devices capable of 65kmh.

Both were seized under Section 109a Road traffic Act, and their owners will have to apply to the courts if they wish to get them back.

A day in court also awaits for no insurance.

Just this week, it was announced by Government that new legislation will be introduced meaning e-scooter users will require licenses and registration.

E-scooters will also be banned for under 18s under the proposal.

In Waterford, representatives say that an outright ban is need.
