Gardaí arrested a man in relation to the alleged assault of a pensioner in Waterford City

The Gardaí in Waterford are investigating a serious incident that occurred in the city over the weekend.

On Friday, August 1, at around a 2.20pm in the afternoon uniformed Gardaí responded to a call and attended a youse in St Catherine's Grange housing estate.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí told Waterford News & Star that a male in his 70s was found unconscious and injured at the scene.

A second male, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene.

It's understood this male was subsequently charged with assault causing harm contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

He has been remanded in custory.

The Garda spokesperson said the investigation into the matter is ongoing at Waterford Crime Unit.
