Gardaí investigate spate of burglaries in Waterford

The Gardaí in Waterford noticed an increase in burglaries in the city and county over the last week.

The Gardáí have notices an increase in burglaries in Waterford City and county within the last week and have appealed to the public for assistance with their investigations.

Additionally, the Gardaí are urging people to be extra vigilant over the coming weeks.

"The advice is to lock up and light up, consider a security review and there is a good aid on the garda.ie website to assist you with this and we’ll post this link on the Facebook Page," a spokesperson for the force told Waterford News & Star and waterford-news.ie

"We would also encourage people to report any callers or people that seem out of place in your locality," she said.

That can be done through local garda stations and if a member of the public thinks a crime is being committed they are advised to phone 999 or 112 to report it.

"There are a few incidents during the last week that we are seeking the public’s assistance with," said the garda spokesperson.

"The first was a burglary in Fenor, just outside Tramore, on Wednesday, April 9, between 12.30am and 4.30pm," she added.

That incident occurred in the Islandtarsney South area. 

"We are looking to speak with two males who were seen in the area in a white van, calling door to door," said the spokesperson.

"If you were driving this van or if you can assist us in identifying this van please contact the Crime Unit at Tramore Garda Station on 051 392620," she added.

The second incident the Gardaí are seeking assistance with also occurred in the Tramore District. 

"In Westtown, a Stihl leafblower and a Stihl strimmer were stolen from the rear of property between 11.30am and 1.15pm," said the Garda. That incident also occurred on Wednesday, April 9.

"If you noted anything suspicious at this time please contact the crime unit at Tramore Garda Station," added the spokesperson.

"Then we had a burglary, in Tallow, in Dunmoon North, sometime between April 3 and 7, when a considerable amount of damage was done to doors of the shed on the property and several items were stolen," said the Garda spokesperson.

The items taken included a crowbar, box of tools and a strimmer. 

The Gardaí in Tallow can be contacted with regard to that incident via Dungarvan on 051 48600.

"If you have been offered any items for sale from suspicious sources consider the origin of the items," said the Garda.
