Gardaí and customs seize €2,780,000 of drugs in south east

As part of two separate, intelligence-led operations involving the members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Revenue Customs Service two separate consignments of herbal cannabis, with a combined weight of approximately 184kgs and combined estimated value of €3,680,000, were seized in Wexford and Dublin.
The seizures took place on Tuesday, May 7, and a spokesperson for the Gardaí told Waterford News and Star that one male, aged in his 60’s, was arrested following the seizure of 139kgs of cannabis herb, with an estimated market value of approximately €2,780,000.
He is currently being detained in the South Eastern Region under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
In a second separate operation, one male, aged in his 50s, was arrested by the Gardaí following the seizure of 45kgs of cannabis herb, worth in the region of €900,000. He is currently being detained in a West Dublin Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. All drugs seized are subject to further analysis and investigations are ongoing.
