Mr O'Mahoney was a former Vice-Principal of De la Salle College, Waterford and the school posted the following tribute to a man who was a much valued and highly respected member of staff: 'It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our former colleague, Pat O’Mahony.

'Pat dedicated his entire teaching career to De La Salle College, serving the school community with distinction from 1962 until his retirement in 2006. He was a devoted English teacher, a committed Year Head, and later Deputy Principal. A true La Sallian, Pat lived the ethos of De La Salle in all his interactions with staff, students, parents, and the wider school community.

'He was held in the highest esteem by the Brothers and was a close and valued friend of the late Br Tim.

'At this sad time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We extend our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife Máire, his sons Michael and Colm—both past pupils of De La Salle College—and his daughters Catherine and Niamh.

'Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.'
