The fundraiser was set up to help a Maisie and Mary Roche.

A fundraiser has been set up to help a mother and her daughter - a teacher in Waterford - after their home was devastated by a fire.

Maisie Roche was in their house in The Rower, Co Kilkenny, when the fire broke out on Sunday afternoon, December 15.

Maisie noticed smoke coming from the upstairs of the house and quickly got herself out of the building. Neighbouring relatives were able to help rescue the pet dogs from the house, but a number of valuable belongings were lost in the blaze.

Now Maisie and her daughter Mary, a teacher in Waterford, are facing Christmas with no where to live and all their earthly goods gone to ashes. According to the GoFundMe page set up to help them, their home insurance had recently lapsed, making a bad situation even worse.

In a show of support, their family set up the fundraising page to help them rebuild their lives.

Organizer John Cottrell, set up the page under the banner of 'Help the Roche family after losing their home in a fire'. At time of writing, the fundraiser had received €31,835 of the €40,000 target.

To donate, go to gofundme.ie and search for the page.
