Sinn Féin General Election candidate, Councillor Conor D McGuinness has received confirmation from the HSE that the long running Psychiatry vacancy in Dungarvan has now been filled.
Commenting to Waterford News & Star on the matter, Cllr McGuinness said: "While its welcome news that the vacancy has finally been filled, I am keen that a plan is now put in place for those patients that have lost out on appointments while the position went unfilled due to the Government's self-imposed recruitment embargo."
"Our public mental health services remain chronically under-resourced," he said.
"I am glad that this position is now filled, however, I am very concerned that Waterford and South Kilkenny are still being covered by just one Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse (SCAN) and that there has still been no positive announcement regarding a Jigsaw youth mental health service for Waterford," he added.
He went on to comment: "The Government needs to do better. Mental health cannot be considered an afterthought."
