Ferrybank Shopping Centre owners had 'positive' meeting with Council

Ferrybank Shopping Centre
The current status of Ferrybank Shopping Centre was discussed at the Piltown Municipal District's September meeting.
Director of Services for Kilkenny County Council, Denis Malone, told the meeting: "We did meet with the owners of the shopping centre during the summer period there. We informed them of what we're doing in terms of the local area planning joint retail strategy."
Mr Malone was referring to the joint retail strategy between Kilkenny and Waterford.
He continued: "Their senior management came down on a fact-finding mission. We had a positive engagement since then, we've exchanged emails with their property section so we're trying to get engaged in the planning process and that engagement is ongoing.
"What I'm trying to do is to get them to a stage [...] that begins the opening of the centre or bringing use to the centre."
The empty building has been a bone of contention for Ferrybank residents and the local authority. In 2023, it was revealed that the Dunnes Group were the owners of the centre.
