Emergency services to remain at Tycor Inferno overnight
A still from the drone footage that captures the extent of the fire at the Tycor Business Centre.
The fire services remain at the scene of a horror fire that ripped through the Tycor Business Centre in Waterford City on Saturday evening, causing hundreds of thousands of euros in damage, as they continue to fight the flames that reached nearly 40 feet, at the former Jute Factory building.
Drone footage that has appeared on social media has shown the deadly impact of the City Inferno, with many businesses in the retail park burnt to the ground, as business owners begin to count the cost of the sheer devastation.
Up to 50 firefighters have and continue to tackle the blaze that broke out prior to Waterford's Munster Senior Championship clash against Cork at nearby Azzurri Walsh Park at around 6pm.
Firefighters from Waterford City, Tramore, Dunmore, Portlaw, and Dungarvan remain at the scene, working to limit the damage caused by this fire, believed to have started in the middle of the Business Centre.
A number of residents in the Tycor area were evacuated from their homes. Emergency services have urged the public not to approach the area and have asked local residents to keep their windows and doors closed due to asbestos concerns.
No injuries have been reported at this time, and emergency services will remain at the scene overnight.
One business family in the Tycor Business Centre, DG Foods, issued a statement on social media. The Hepburn family said: "DG FOODS, and the Hepburn family would like to thank all well-wishers and all Emergency Crews from Waterford city fire station + Waterford Garda for their battle to try to save our storage unit and our original store in Tycor Business Centre for the last 20 years.
