The Deputy British Ambassador has paid a visit to Waterford in an effort to strengthen regional ties.
During the visit, Mr Patrick Reilly attended the Waterford City Region Advantage Dinner and paid a visit to SETU.
"This is my second diplomatic posting to Ireland, and I’m delighted to be back in a country I’ve long admired and enjoyed. I especially look forward to getting to know Waterford and the wider South East region better, and to building on the strong connections already established by the Embassy,” said Mr Reilly.
According to the British Embassy in Dublin, this visit builds on the Embassy’s previous engagement in Waterford in October 2024 and reflects the UK’s ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships across Ireland’s regions.
It also follows the Royal Visit to Waterford in March 2022 by the then HRH Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.
During their visit, the royal couple explored the city’s Viking heritage with a ceremonial welcome at Reginald’s Tower.
They toured the Medieval Museum, met with local dignitaries and first responders, and engaged with members of Waterford’s Ukrainian community in a show of solidarity amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
That visit concluded with a civic reception at Waterford City Hall, where the then Prince of Wales spoke warmly of Ireland and Waterford’s historical ties to the UK.
