Demand for swimming pool in County Waterford is not going away

Cllr Conor McGuinness
Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness has said that the demand for a public swimming pool in Dungarvan is not going away.
He made the comments after raising the issue with the incoming chief executive of Waterford City and County Council ahead of his start date in August.
McGuinness said: “I took the opportunity to brief the incoming chief executive on the need for a public swimming pool in Dungarvan and the work undertaken to date."
“The demand for this amenity is not going away," he said.
"Dungarvan is very much an outlier in not having a public pool - an amenity that is taken for granted in most towns of comparable size and population," he added.
“A public pool would facilitate our many excellent local competitive swimmers, host our thriving swimming club, and enable schools to provide regular swimming lessons. It would also be available for water safety training, older people, families, sports teams, and those recuperating from illness or injury."
Cllr McGuinness went on to comment: “In addition, having a public swimming pool in the town would allow us to extend our tourism season and overall offering. It would give locals and visitors alike a much-needed enjoyable rainy-day alternative. I believe that the election of a new council and appointment of a new senior management team makes a review of the capital plan timely and prudent. I will be pushing for a review and for funding to be ringfenced for the development of a public swimming pool in Dungarvan. It is incumbent on all local public representatives to do likewise.
