Court in the South East grants detention order following cash seizure by Revenue

A Wexford Judge has granted an application for a three-month detention order in the case of cash seized by Revenue as part of operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
The order was granted by Judge John Cheatle at Wexford District Court after Revenue seized €5,320 and £165 (sterling)in an enforcement operation.
The cash seizure was one of several operations conducted in Dublin, the Midlands, Kilkenny, and at Rosslare Europort last week.
In total, across all operations €315,400 in contraband was seized by Revenue officers.
The detections, they said, were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations.
Drugs, including 7.45kg of herbal cannabis, valued at almost €150,000, synthetic cannabinoids (€35,750), 2,940 assorted tablets (€5,840) and various other illicit drugs €1,500, were found as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Sam.
The parcels originated from the USA, the UK, India, Thailand and Canada, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.
Officers seized €23,900 worth of tobacco products, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of almost €18,750 and 885 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of over €12,760.
Also seized were 144 counterfeit items with an estimated value of almost €80,200 and 16 weapons.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
Revenue said investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
