A public order incident that occurred in Waterford city in recent weeks has been progressing through the courts.

It is alleged that in the Broad Street area of the city on September 11, a man produced an imitation firearm following an incident in which a large group of people, including children, were present. The man arrested in connection was Tomas Cullen, age 42, of Prospect House, Coolfin, Portlaw.

He was subsequently charged with the unlawful possession of a realistic imitation firearm and for producing said firearm with the intent to cause fear or intimidate others.

Mr Cullen made his most recent court appearance this week via video link. In a brief update, the court was informed that the Director of Public Prosecutions does not yet have directions available to progress the case. Cullen himself informed Judge Caitriona Murray that he has been receiving psychiatric evaluation while in custody.

The matter has been adjourned to later this month.
