Councillor Murphy to take up Mayoral role

Fianna Fáil Councillor Jason Murphy will take up Mayoral duties following a meeting of Waterford City and County Council's Plenary representatives.

The newly-elected representatives of Waterford City and County Council held a meeting today where Fianna Fáil's Jason Murphy was announced as Waterford's newest Mayor.

Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Murphy was proposed by Cllr Adam Wyse (FF) and seconded by Cllr Lola O’Sullivan (FG).

Sinn Féin's Cllr Jim Griffin received seven votes of support, while Independent Cllr David Daniels had four votes of support.

With the triumph of Independents at the local elections, Cllr Daniels expected that to reflect in his mayoral interest and he expressed disappointment that he didn’t get more support from his fellow independent councillors.

The Deputy Mayor for the upcoming term has also been selected. Cllr Adam Wyse will take up the role.
