CATU (Community Action Tenants’ Union) Waterford have called a residents’ meeting over ongoing complaints regarding Mount Suir Apartments.
The apartments are located in Gracedieu in the Western suburbs of Waterford City. The residents are a mixture of council tenants and private renters.
Issues with mould, damp and anti-social behaviour have all been cited by residents in the past.
The residents' meeting will take place on Thursday, January 29 at 6 pm in Carrickphierish Library.
"For years, residents at Mount Suir Apartments have been calling for one simple thing: a safe and secure home,” said CATU Waterford.
“Yet despite individually raising awareness through local media and reaching out to local councillors, their concerns have fallen on deaf ears.
“At CATU (Community Action Tenants' Union) Waterford, we have in recent years visited Mount Suir Apartments to speak with residents - some renting privately, some renting from the council, and some with mortgages - in order to help collectively organise them, with the aim of everyone working together to put pressure on their landlords and building managers to improve the situation.
“The conditions in Mount Suir Apartments have been horrible for a long time, with persistent mould, decaying and defaced communal areas, and unsafe surroundings.”
