A body has been located this morning in a search operation off the Waterford coastline.

A man in his 60s set out from Helvic Head, Waterford yesterday, Monday, August 12, at 11.30am, to go kayaking but when he hadn't returned as planned the alarm was raised and a multi-operational search was initiated.

The search began shortly after 5.30pm yesterday evening and was temporarily paused for a few hours overnight as from the early hours of this morning, Tuesday, August 13, the rescue crews were back in the water and in the air to search for the man.

The operation was lead by the naval vessel LÉ Aoibhinn, and many RNLI branches were tasked with the search, along with Waterford-based Search And Rescue (SAR) helicopter, Rescue 117.

The weather conditions while the search was underway made it rather challenging for those involved as they dealt with windy and misty conditions.

The body was located shortly after 10am this morning, Tuesday, August 13, and a recovery operation is underway.
