The incident occurred on Monday, March 9.

An appeal has been made by the Gardaí for assistance from the public as part of their investigation into an assault that took place in the city.

The incident occurred on Monday, March 9, between 9pm and 10pm.

A spokesperson for the Gardaí said that on the date mentioned two males were walking on Hennessey Road in Waterford City.

Having turned on to Ashe Road, one of the males was approached by a group of five males who assaulted him and stole his mobile phone and a sum of cash. 

"They made their escape in the direction of Lisduggan," said the spokesperson.

Anyone who was in the area on Monday night, March 9, and who observed the incident is asked to contact the Crime Unit at Waterford Garda Station or contact the confidential line 1800 666 111.
