Almost €9 million allocated to Waterford sports clubs and organisations

70 Waterford clubs, spanning GAA, scouts, boxing, athletics, rugby, tennis, boat clubs, as well as fitness centres and schools have received significant funding.
Close to €9 million will be allocated to a range of Waterford sports clubs and organisations under the Community Sports Facility Fund, formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme.
The grants announced today include €7,423,608 in local grants and €1,376,331 in regional grants.
70 Waterford clubs, spanning GAA, scouts, boxing, athletics, rugby, tennis, boat clubs, as well as fitness centres and schools have received significant funding for a wide range of capital works. The highest grants awarded include:
- €471,703 to Coppercoast Community Outreach CLG
- €419,008 for SETU sustainability project and upgrade of end of life 3G
- Dungarvan Hurling & Football Club who received €132,885 for the construction of an indoor gym
- €93,281 for Waterford Sacred Heart Scout Group for the refurbishment of their existing scout den
- €80,873 for Bohemians FC in Waterford for the development of Ben Wadding Park
- €107,949 for Park Rangers FC to expand their training facilities and capacity
- €184,402 for Tramore GAA Club for ground improvements
- €485,619 for St. Angela's School - Ursuline School Waterford for an artificial pitch
- €132,885 for Waterpark Rugby Football Club to resurface their Multi Use Astro Turf
- €104,983 for Brideview Utd AFC for an efficient lighting upgrade
- €195,175 for Splashworld, Tramore to improve their changing areas
- €188,670 to Waterford Crystal Football Club for the refurbishment of their clubhouse
- €175,092 for De La Salle Football Club for building of Astroturf, LEF Floodlights and dugouts
- €199,499 to Dungarvan United AFC to convert their grass pitch to Full Size Astro
- €200,000 for Scoil Mhuire Tallow for an astro turf facility
In Waterford, the GAA received 35% of the overall funding (€3.09m). Soccer clubs received the second highest amount of funds, at €1.953m; followed by scouts organisations (€564k), golf (€490k) and tennis clubs (€229k).
Senator John Cummins welcomed the allocations to Waterford, saying: "I'm looking forward to seeing the fantastic projects these clubs have come to fruition," while Deputy Marc Ó Cathasaigh, TD, said: "Our sports organisations are vital for the health and wellbeing of both children and adults throughout the county."
