Almost €500,000 allocated to rural Waterford infrastructure projects

County Waterford projects are to receive a boost of €446,000 under Measure One of the 2025 CLÁR Programme.

Ministers Mary Butler and John Cummins welcomed the announcement.

“The CLÁR programme continues to provide vital support in some of our most remote rural areas. These projects help build strong, resilient and vibrant communities through the enhancement of existing community facilities and the provision of new amenities to support people across a range of services,” said Minister Butler.

CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd Riachtanais) provides funding for small-scale rural infrastructure projects in areas with the highest levels of population decline.

In Waterford, the Tourancena Sliabh gCua Community Playground Committee in Ballinamult was allocated €99,000 for its playground upgrade, while Kilbrien National School received €57,109 to upgrade its flooring, heating and kitchen.

Rathgormack National School will see €51,109 for the upgrade of their play area, while Touraneena will receive €93,299 for the renovatiotion of ourdoor public toilets to include wheelchair access and to resurface the astroturf.

Modeligo Community Centre and Sportsfield was allocated €36,724 for upgrade works.

KGK Community Dev. Company in Knockanore will see €64,800 for upgrade works to the astro pitch, ball wall, playground and carpark.

And Ballysaggart GAA will receive €43,961 to upgrade its grounds.

“I want to congratulate all successful applicants in Waterford for the stellar work they have undertaken on behalf of their communities to secure funding for projects in their locality. 

"We are fortunate to have such active groups in Waterford striving to make our rural communities even more attractive places to live, work and raise a family,” said Minister Butler.

The funding was announced by the Minister for Rural & Community Development, Dara Calleary.

The allocations in Waterford are part of a package of €12.3 million to deliver 206 community projects throughout the country.

Minister Butler thanked Minister Calleary for the funding, while Minister Cummins thanked Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Jerry Buttimer, for supporting the applications.

“The €446,002 announced this morning is another display of this government's continued commitment to improving community facilities across rural Waterford. 

"The €446,002 will be a significant boost for the seven communities across Waterford. 

"These groups are proactive, do great work for their communities and I’m delighted to see them being supported in today’s announcement,” said Minister Cummins.
