Alleged theft from Homesavers in Waterford

Waterford Courthouse.

A woman appeared in court last week charged with an allegation of theft from Homesavers in Ballybricken.

It is alleged she placed €216.45 worth of electronics and cosmetics into a bag.

An investigating garda officer told the court the woman walked past all points of payment with the bag but was stopped by staff before leaving the store.

Defence

The woman’s defence solicitor, Hilary Delahunty, said that the evidence presented to the court against the woman is "so terribly weak".

Mr Delahunty said that staff working in the store merely assumed that she was stealing and thus approached her.

Bail

The woman's bail application was contested.

Judge Kevin Staunton told the woman he would give her one last chance and decided to grant her bail.

“Judge Staunton, I love you,” the woman said.

The matter will return to court in October.
