There were expressions of absolute disgust made in an area of County Waterford recently on the discovery of human faeces left at a children's playground.
The incident occurred in Portlaw where one local said: "Residents have expressed their disgust after human faeces was deliberately left on the children's slide at Portlaw Park Playground."
"Sadly, one child came into contact with it before it was discovered and removed," added the resident.
The playground is a valued community amenity for Portlaw and used by many local families.
There was widespread condemnation over what occurred - which was disgusting to an appalling level.
However, in complete contrast to the person who did it, two local women took it upon themselves to clean up the area and make it safe again.
"Thanks were extended to two local women who cleaned, bleached and disinfected the slide to ensure it was safe for children once again," said a local resident.
Cllr Declan Clune expressed complete disgust over the matter.
"I am absolutely disgusted to learn that human faeces were deliberately deposited on the children's slide in Portlaw Park Playground," he said.
"This is a public amenity enjoyed by many local families, and this kind of mindless, disgusting behaviour has no place in our community and will not be tolerated," he added, before commenting: "A huge thank you to the two local ladies who stepped in to clean, bleach and disinfect."
The Gardaí have been notified and residents in the Connolly Road area are asked to check any CCTV or doorbell camera footage that may assist in identifying those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact Councillor Declan Clune or the Gardaí.
