€273,000 funding announced for restoration of historical buildings in Waterford

Waterford Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Housing, John Cummins has announced €273,729 for 28 projects in Waterford.

Heritage buildings in Waterford have been awarded €273,729 in funding under this year's Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS).

The 28 projects in Waterford will use the funding to support the repair and restoration of older buildings. Nationally, more than 650 projects have been awarded funding under the scheme.

The top-ticket awardees in Waterford are: €20,000 for the Church of the Immaculate Conception; €20,000 for Curraghmore House; €14,000 for the Thatched Cottage in Kilmeaden, €11,000 for the Franciscan Friary, 21 Lady Lane; €11,000 Saint John’s Catholic Church, Waterford City; €10,000 for the Meeting Place, Upper Branch Road.

The Waterford awardees under the scheme, which falls under the Department for Housing, were announced by Minister of State, John Cummins, who said the funding will "greatly assist with protecting our historic buildings which contribute to our community’s sense of identity".

“This year’s grants will be used to repair, restore, and protect historic structures in Waterford from modest traditional homes to landmark public buildings."
