An investment of €100,000 has been made in County Waterford through Cairde Credit Union’s, Community Initiative Fund.
The financial support was given to a number of projects in the West Waterford area ranging from a new rural playground to a school bus supporting children with additional needs, and as a result Cairde Credit Union’s, Community Initiative Fund is already making a real difference across local communities.

The benefactors from the scheme are the first ever recipients of the fund, with money awarded to six organisations delivering projects across the region.
A spokesperson for Cairdre Credit Union said the initiative was launched to support community groups, clubs, schools and organisations working to improve local facilities, encourage participation, and strengthen community connections.

Following strong interest and a high number of applications, six projects were selected to receive funding through the Community Initiative Fund, comprised of: St. John’s Special School, Dungarvan – funding towards a school bus to support student transport and inclusion - €20,000; Fiontar Pobail, An Rinn – funding to complete a community all-weather sports facility - €20,000; KGK Community Ltd., Knockanore / Glendine / Kilwatermoy – funding for the development of a new community playground - €20,000; Dungarvan Hockey Club – funding towards perimeter fencing as part of plans for a new astro turf facility - €10,000; St. Brigid’s Hall, Killrossanty – funding for upgrades to the community hall - €10,000, and Modeligo Community Centre – funding for improvements to their community hall facilities- €10,000.

The remaining €10,000 will be carried forward into next year’s fund, continuing support for future community projects.
