Oísin’s extended family had cared for the boy when he was an infant and had engaged in a legal battle for several years to secure custody, but his father, Wayne O’Reilly, was ultimately successful in gaining custody of the boy.

Dr Helen Buckley of the National Review Panel also explained the rationale for not publicly releasing the full review report into the Kyrnan Durnin case.

The eight-year-old was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth, on August 30th and is presumed dead.
