Shine, who worked in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda from 1964 until 1995, was convicted after three criminal trials of sexually assaulting dozens of young boys in the course of his work.

Michael Shine worked as a consultant at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, and was later found guilty of sexual assaults on nine boys.

Shine worked as a senior registrar at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda from 1964 to 1995.

David Cullinane also said a public inquiry, requested by victims of Shine, should ‘absolutely’ be set up.

Simon Harris described Shine as a ‘vile paedophile’ who has brought pain and misery to many of his victims.
