The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said it mobilised to 41 calls involving wildfires on Tuesday.

Police have said they are using air support to survey the area for potential suspects and further wildfires.

A firefighting operation is expected to remain in place across Tuesday in the Bloody Bridge area.

The environment minister visited the Mourne Mountains in Co Down on Monday evening to view the extent of damage caused by recent fires.

People have been asked to avoid the area.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze in the Silent Valley area just after 5pm on Friday.

Taoiseach Simon Harris said developer BAM has a ‘track record in terms of the delivery of bridges’.
