Andrew Cooney (44), previously of Collins Place, Finglas, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault, assault causing harm and threats to kill against the first victim in this case on October 9, 2022, and sexual assault, assault causing harm and threats to kill against the second woman on September 8th, 2023.

In a victim impact statement read to the court by the woman’s friend who sat beside her throughout the trial, she said she suffered from “flashbacks” and “her whole life had changed”.

His previous 60 previous convictions include a conviction for burglary of Ms Keogh’s parents' home and convictions from France which include threatening a former partner.

In her impact statement, the Sinn Féin leader noted that the “family of the perpetrator of this crime” had written to her to express solidarity with her and her family.
