The State data watchdog has launched an inquiry into CHI’s handling of child health records.

It relates to physical safety and security of children's health records within one specific CHI facility in Tallaght, Co Dublin, Newstalk reported.

The hospital has already missed 14 previous deadlines.

Executive and senior clinicians from CHI appeared before the Oireachtas Committee on Health.

Some clinics funded through the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) did not adhere to chronological scheduling standards for patients.

CHI was established in 2019 to govern and operate paediatric services in Ireland, and currently operates Temple Street, Crumlin and Tallaght hospitals. It will also operate the new National Children’s Hospital upon completion.

It comes after an audit found many children underwent ‘unnecessary’ hip surgeries at two Dublin hospitals.

The HSE said he was not aware of a reported CHI international investigation into the allegations

Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said that told the board expected the watchdog’s recommendations to be implemented ‘as quickly as possible’.

Disbanding the board of Children’s Health Ireland would not help in any shape or form, the Taoiseach has said.

"As an advocate, I would like it to be a full public inquiry into CHI and how they have treated and handled children who live with scoliosis.”

The boy was brought to a doctor with what his mother thought was an ear infection but the family later discovered he had an inoperable brain tumour.
