Siobhán Heffernan and Mitchell Casey met one Sunday night in August 2010 while out with friends in what you could say was love at first sight as they’ve been together ever since and are now very happy newlyweds.

There are many things the couple share their love for, including family and friends who they say are “so important” to them, but so are their furry friends.

“We have two Bernese Mountain dogs; Busby is four and Fergie is two. We love to go for walks and adventures with our dogs,” said Siobhán, adding, “They make us smile every day and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.”

But their love for animals didn’t stop there as they rescued a stray dog called Bonnie early in the year, who unfortunately passed away shortly before the wedding.

Sport is also another thing the couple have in common, although the parishes may differ as Mitchell plays soccer for Waterford Crystal Football Club and Gaelic football for De La Salle GAA Club, while Siobhán plays camogie for Ferrybank Camogie Club and hockey for Waterford Hockey Club.

It was on a walking trail through Glendalough in July 2019 that Mitchell proposed to Siobhán and the couple tied the knot in Siobhán's local church, Sacred Heart Church Ferrybank, with celebrant, Fr. Roderick Whearty and concelebrant, Fr. Jim Crotty.

The Bride's morning

Siobhán got ready on the morning of the wedding in the bride and groom's house, Elteen, on the Newrath Road, along with her bridal party and her mam, Anne Heffernan. Her dad, John Heffernan, and her brother, Seán, were also in the house on the morning of the wedding.

Make-up artist, Lisa Coffey from Waterford, arrived first for the bridal preparations on the morning of the wedding, closely followed by hairdresser, Aisling Hamill.

"They were so nice, calming and helpful on the morning of the wedding," said the bride.

Florist, Marie Murphy from Fleur De Lis By Marie, arrived with the cream rose bouquets for the bride and bridal party, a buttonhole for the father of the bride and a corsage for Siobhán's granny.

Siobhán's granny, Ellie Heffernan, attended the wedding ceremony. She was unable to travel to Seafield. Ellie is 95 years young and is the only living grandparent of the bride and groom.

Photographer, Paul from Moathill Photography, and videographer, Brian Dowling from House of Ren, arrived next to the bridal preparations.

"They added a bit of craic to the morning," said Siobhán.

The bride's wedding dress was satin and ivory in colour. It was a Vivienne Westwood dress from TWG Boutique (The White Gallery Boutique). The bride's shoes were Avalia from Amore Bridalwear. The bridesmaid's dresses were satin and olive green in colour and were from Jenny Yoo from The Suite. The wedding theme/style was a kind of modern vintage with the flowers cream roses.

The mothers' of the bride and groom's dresses and shoes were from La Créme Boutique.

Siobhán and her dad travelled to the wedding ceremony in a vintage wedding car called Daisy, which was driven by Nathan and her bridal party travelled in the Gorgeous George Vintage Bus, which was driven by David. This transportation was provided by a local company called All Events Chauffeur Drive Limited.

The Groom's morning

Mitchell brought Busby and Fergie for a walk and then to the Copper Coast Kennel in Annestown to stay over the weekend. Mitchell and his groomsmen went for a swim in Benvoy Beach before heading back to his parents, Deirdre and Joe Casey's house in Hillview for breakfast and to get ready.

Photographer, Elaine from Moathill Photography, arrived to the groom's preparations for breakfast, sitting out in the back garden in the sun and getting ready.

The groom, groomsmen, and fathers' of the bride and groom wore tuxedo suits and shoes from Fitzgerald Menswear in Waterford city. Mitchell and the groomsmen travelled to the wedding ceremony in his cousin, Ian Cullen's Porsche car.

The ceremony

In preparation for the ceremony, the church was decorated by Marie Murphy from Fleur De Lis By Marie, with the welcome sign provided by Sian from RubyDoo designs. The wedding ceremony booklets were made by Susan Cullen Hennessy.

Tara and Jonny from Wedding Music Ireland played beautifully in the church.

The first reading was read by Siobhán's godfather, Nicky Heffernan, and second reading was read by Mitchell's sister, Lynne-Marie Casey. Siobhán's godmother, Phyllis Flynn, read a poem called 'Always Love Each Other' for communion reflection.

And while the couple were surrounded by 260 guests, there was one special lady in attendance who they wished to celebrate - Siobhán's granny Ellie was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the bride and groom at the end of the ceremony.

The reception

Following the wedding ceremony, they travelled to Seafield in Wexford (in the Gorgeous George Vintage Bus with a quick stop to Aldi for refreshments) where they would later enjoy a beautiful drinks reception on the deck and later a five-course meal. The wedding party entered the suite to 'Freed from Desire', "which was a great hit", said the bride, who made quite the entrance herself with her husband, to "Put 'em under pressure (We're all part of Jackie's Army)", which she said, "set the tone for the rest of the day."

After the meal, guests enjoyed the delicious three-tier wedding cake, which was made by Niamh Robinson from Cupcake Avenue.

"Our seven-piece brass wedding band, Sax and the City, kicked off the night by singing 'A Rainy Night in Soho' by The Pogues for our first dance. The dancefloor was full from this point onwards for the night. Declan and Kayleigh, male and female vocals in the band, were a huge hit with the guests," said the newlyweds.

"The band was followed by their own Sax DJ, which is a DJ and Saxophone Player combo. Declan Walsh was the DJ and Patrick Hughes was the Saxaphonist. Both kept the dancefloor full for the whole night, which was one of the talking points of the wedding day," they added.

Mr & Mrs Casey said they're grateful to those who joined them from near and far: "We couldn't have imagined our weekend without all their smiling faces, and we hope they had a brilliant day and made some special memories."
