Update on Waterford Dairy Farmers sponsorship of Waterford Ladies Gaelic Footballers
The aim of the dairy farmers as a sponsor, as well as supporting the Waterford Ladies footballers, is to highlight all the great work that dairy farmers do in their communities, environmentally, socially, financially and also to demonstrate the advantages of a well-balanced diet including dairy products.
At the start of 2025 an agreement was reached by a group of dairy farmers from County Waterford to sponsor the Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Senior team. The agreement was to sponsor the senior team to the amount of €15k/year for three years.
"This group reached out to our dairy farming neighbours asking for a contribution of €100/year for three years. We are delighted to say that the farmers were very generous, and we raised approximately €55k in total," Kevin Moloney, Chairman, Waterford Dairy Farmers, said.
"We also reached out to our colleagues in Dovea Genetics and they came on board as a sponsor on the back of the jersey."
The aim of the dairy farmers as a sponsor, as well as supporting the Waterford Ladies footballers, is to highlight all the great work that dairy farmers do in their communities, environmentally, socially, financially and also to demonstrate the advantages of a well-balanced diet including dairy products.
"We feel that we have made huge progress on this through social media platforms, through promotional events and with local radio, local and national media outlets, including articles published on the Irish Examiner and Irish Independent."
WLGFA through its PR activities has also provided high-quality, sustained, and effective promotion of Waterford Dairy Farmers.
"The WLGFA and Waterford Dairy Farmers strong alignment has maximised our visibility, increased public appreciation of the dairy community, and contributed meaningfully to the development of female athletes in the county," Mr Moloney said.
"During the year, as a result of farmers generosity we were further able to help the Waterford ladies underage development structure, which was something that came up in our conversations while collecting the sponsorship from farmers.
"We gave €1,500 towards the cost of running the U13 and U15 Player development program (PDP), benefitting almost 250 young girls. We were also in a position to give €1,000 to the Waterford Minor ladies football team to help with costs on their successful journey to the Minor C All-Ireland final - which they won on a glorious summer’s day, defeating Westmeath."
The dairy farmers are now also delighted to announce that for 2026 and 2027,Tirlán and the National Dairy Council have seen the great work that they are doing and have decided to come on board as sleeve sponsors of the Waterford Ladies Senior football team.
"This is a unique dairy farming themed sponsorship aiming to highlight dairy’s special place in rural Ireland," Mr Moloney added.
Azzurri has also come on board as the new official kit supplier to Waterford LGFA. Jerseys and other Waterford merchandise are now available on azzurri.ie, an ideal Christmas present.
Waterford Dairy Farmers would like to wish the Waterford ladies the very best of luck in the upcoming season.
"We are confident that national success is very close," Mr Moloney said.
"We would like to thank each and every farmer for their monetary contributions, encouragement and support. Without you, funding the teams and nurturing future success would not be possible, and we are all extremely grateful for your support."
