Irish folk legends take to the stage in Waterford

Tunefest hosted an extraordinary night of trad on Culture Night.
Dungarvan Town Hall played host to an extraordinary night of traditional Irish music on Culture Night (Friday, September 20), as Dónal Clancy and Rory Makem took to the stage.
The sold-out concert, a highlight of the TuneFest autumn series, sold out within just two weeks, and fans of Clancy and Makem, both sons of legendary Irish folk musicians Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem, enjoyed a deeply nostalgic performance.
The duo performed timeless classics like “The Dutchman” and “Four Green Fields”, while sharing stories from their fathers’ days in The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem.
In a testament to TuneFest’s expanding reach, two audience members, Sally and Greg Jensen, travelled all the way from Massachusetts, USA, arriving just in time for the concert.
The couple, longtime fans of Clancy and Makem, said they had seen the duo perform in America, but that the energy of the Dungarvan crowd was “truly incredible”.
TuneFest Dungarvan, held annually in June, has become a beacon for traditional Irish music lovers, offering performances, workshops, and busking opportunities for young musicians.
The festival announced recently that it was expanding beyond just its annual summer events, with more nights filled with enchanting music, rich storytelling and cultural experiences taking place in the autumn and winter, at Dungarvan's Town Hall Theatre.
Continuing the festival's seasonal offerings, TuneFest will present The Daoirí Farrell Trio on December 6.
Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell is a former electrician turned full-time musician, who has been hailed as one of the most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years.
