Gardaí investigate death of woman in Co Carlow

Gardaí are investigating the death of a woman in suspicious circumstances in Co Carlow.

Mother-of-two Linda Costello, who has been named locally, was found at a house in Graiguecullen, Co Carlow on Thursday, March 26th shortly after 6am.

Costello, who was in her 50s, was rushed to St Luke’s General Hospital by ambulance and subsequently to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Despite efforts by medical staff, Costello died last Friday in hospital.

A garda spokesperson said that they, along with emergency services, attended “a domestic residence on Bridge Street, Graiguecullen, Co Carlow shortly after 6am”.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination has been conducted.

A man aged in his 40s was arrested in connection with this investigation and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Garda added that the man has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It is understood that Costello suffered a number of injuries to her body when she was found unconscious, including bruising to one of her eyes, chest, arm, and abdomen, along with blood around her mouth and bedclothes.

Gardaí said their investigations are ongoing.

In her death notice, Costello, formerly from Castledermot, Co Kildare and Ballyboden, Dublin is described as dying “tragically”.

She is survived by her children Ben and Amy, their father Larry, parents Ronnie and Patricia, sister Samantha, brother-in-law Keith, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, relatives and friends, “especially her good friends Emma and Siobhan”.

Costello’s funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
