Gardaí were involved in a dramatic high-speed pursuit after a suspected drug-driver fled a checkpoint in Co Donegal.

The driver was initially stopped at a checkpoint at Bridgend on the Donegal-Derry border in the early hours of Sunday morning and tested positive for cocaine

However, the driver then decided to flee the scene and drove off in a dangerous manner.

Gardaí pursued the car and were then forced to deploy their stinger device to bring the vehicle and driver under control.

"The vehicle was driven in a dangerous manner for a distance," said a garda spokesperson.

"A stinger device was successfully deployed and it was located and seized a short time later."

The driver is now expected to appear at a future sitting of the local District Court.

A Garda spokesperson said the driver will also have to apply to the District Court Judge in order to get their vehicle back.
